SITUATION REPORT #4
SUBJECT: Hurricane Humberto
DATE AND TIME COVERED: Thursday, 14 September 2007, 08:00 PM through Friday, 14 August 2007, 2:00 PM
CURRENT SITUATION:
A POD (Point of Distribution) has been set up at the First Baptist Church in High Island and the Joe Faggard Building in Crystal Beach with ice and water. Food from the Red Cross is being served in the same places. Texas Military Forces are still assisting at the PODs and various locations. The Galveston County Health District is setting up a distribution points for tetanus shots at Crystal Beach and is enroute to the High Island Location. Damage Assessment activities continue with teams on the ground from Galveston County Emergency Management and Red Cross. Road and Bridge continues to remove vegetative material debris. Entergy continues to work to restore power to the entire peninsula with officials indicating that energy may be restored to High Island as early as this evening. The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management has activated selected staff only at this time for recovery efforts following Hurricane Humberto.
AREAS AFFECTED BY THIS EVENT: Bolivar Peninsula, Cities of High Island, Gilchrist, Crystal Beach and Port Bolivar.
RESPONDING OFFICES/DEPARTMENTS, RESOURCES COMMITTED: GCOEM, GCSO, Health District, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Texas Military Forces, Texas Department of Public Safety, All VFDs on Bolivar Peninsula, Road and Bridge.
CASUALTIES: None reported.
DAMAGES: Structure Damage, Overturned RV’s, Roof Damage, Power Lines, Trees Uprooted.
EVACUATION: None.
SHELTER: First Baptist Church in High Island- 600 Weeks Rd. Feeding stations in place at Crystal Beach and High Island
ROADS CURRENTLY CLOSED/IMPACTED: All roads are passable.
CURRENT UTILITY OUTAGES: Electricity on the Bolivar Peninsula.
COMMENTS: The Emergency Management Office continues to monitor the situation and assist with resource requests. Conference calls are being conducted with the Galveston County jurisdictions, public agencies, utilities, and first responders in the affected areas and the State of Texas Operations Center. The next conference call is scheduled for 3.30 PM September 14, 2007 and 4:00 PM with State Operations Center. The Emergency Operations Center is at Level 2.
