One of the most valuable resources to Galveston County Office of Emergency
Management is the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). This is the central point of
coordination for all Major Emergency Operations within Galveston County.
The purpose of this central point is to ensure decision makers have
direct unfiltered communications with one another and all outside
response personnel.
The EOC provides for coordination of
the emergency response and recovery process by elected officials and
other decision makers, who work together for improved efficiency and
effectiveness.
Some of our EOC Capabilities:
- 500KW Generator
- 100 telephone lines, with an additional 100 in place should they be needed
- Regional 800MHZ Radio system, as well as VHF, UHF, and 900 MHz
- Amateur radio communications
- Local and national television monitoring
- Internet and Local Area Networking capability
- Computer modeling programs for various natural and technological disasters
- Specialized Emergency Management computer software for maintaining, analyzing, and reporting emergency situations
- WebEOC
- Interoperability Communications Capability
During a emergency situation such as Hurricane Rita, the EOC was activated and manned by the personnel necessary to
help protect the lives and property of the citizens of Galveston County.
During the peak of these storms there were almost 75 people in the EOC, for
more than two days.
