Tropical Storm Edouard is starting to make landfall near the Texas / Louisiana border. At 5:00 am. TS Edouard was located at 29.30N / 93.40W or approximately 85 miles southeast of Galveston, forward speed of TS Edouard has increased to approximately 12 mph with movement continuing to the west northwest. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph, with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center of TS Edouard up to 70 miles. A storm surge of 2 – 4ft. above normal tide levels can be expected to occur in the warning area with onshore winds. TS Edouard can produce rain accumulations of 4 – 6 inches with isolated amounts of 10 inches over southeastern Texas. Isolated tornados are possible over portions of the upper Texas coast today.
Galveston County Offices including jury service and the Courts will remain closed. Offices will reopen on Wednesday conditions permitting.
Even though TS Edouard did not make landfall directly in Galveston County it is still a serious weather situation and residents are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling or going out. It is possible that areas of Galveston County will experience tropical storm force winds for approximately 11 hours throughout the day on Tuesday.
The Emergency Operations Center remains activated at this time and will continue to monitor TS Edouard until the threat to Galveston County has passed.
