On this 17th day of May, 2006, the Commissioners' Court of Galveston County, Texas convened in a regularly scheduled meeting with the following members thereof present:

James D. Yarbrough, County Judge;
Patrick F. Doyle, Commissioner, Precinct 1;
Eddie Janek, Commissioner, Precinct 2;
Stephen D. Holmes, Commissioner, Precinct 3;
Kenneth Clark, Commissioner, Precinct 4; and
Mary Ann Daigle, County Clerk

when the following proceedings, among others, were had, to-wit:

Whereas, Texas hurricane season officially beings June 1st and ends November 30th of each year. In order to heighten awareness, the week of May 21-27, 2006 has been designated "Hurricane Awareness Week"; and

Whereas, with miles and miles of coastline, the State of Texas is vulnerable to the devastating effects a hurricane or tropical storm can cause. With over 60 miles of gulf coastline, Galveston County itself faces loss of life and property if such a disaster occurs; and

Whereas, both public and private entities should develop emergency response and recovery plans in accordance with local jurisdictions and local emergency management offices. Such preventative action could save lives; and

Whereas, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, the Texas Department of Insurance, the Texas Department of Health and the Texas Insurance Organization strongly suggest that all residents and visitors to Galveston county be aware of the high winds, flooding and severe weather that may occur in conjunction with a tropical storm or hurricane.

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Commissioners' Court of Galveston County, Texas does hereby proclaim the week of May 21-27,2006 as "Hurricane Awareness Week: in the County of Galveston.

Upon Motion Duly Made, and Seconded, the above Resolution was unanimously passed on this 17th day of May 2006.
