Hurricane Ike Surges Ashore PDF Print E-mail

Much of the Galveston Island is currently flooded and there are several fires in that area.  Many roads in the County are impassable to rising water and debris.  Sustained tropical storm force winds are currently affecting the coast.  Due to rapidly deteriorating weather conditions, the time has come to shelter in place.  The anticipated storm surge is between 12-19 along the beach front and between 15-20 feet in Galveston Bay at the height of the storm  The Galveston-Bolivar Ferry has ceased operations.  The Bolivar SUD has ceased water service to the Peninsulaand there is currently no electricity there.  Citizens of Galveston County should pay close attention to the news media throughout the duration for the most current information.  We are continuing to work with our local jurisdiction partners, the National Weather Service and the Governor's Division of Emergency Management.   Keep yourselves up to date on the most current information by visiting the websites of the National Weather Service Houston-Galveston, the National Hurricane Center and our web page.
