Overnight Hurricane Ike made landfall over Galveston Bay.  All of Galveston County is without power.  Some areas are also without water.  The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management is requesting that citizens continue to shelter in place as Ike completely passes over our area.  Curfews are in effect for all of Galveston County.  Do not attempt to travel around the County as roads may be barricaded or impassable.  During the day Saturday as conditions permit the focus will turn to rescue of citizens needing help.  Resources such as ice and water will be deployed as soon as it is safe to do so.  Damage Assessment Teams will be on the ground as soon as possible to determine when citizens may safely return to the area.  The Galveston-Bolivar Ferry has ceased operations the determination is made that it is safe to proceed.  Citizens of Galveston County should continue to heed the advice of their local officials regarding re-entry and recovery issues.  We are continuing to work with our local jurisdiction partners, the National Weather Service and the Governor's Division of Emergency Management.   For information on assistance, visit the website of the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org.
