FERRY LANDING
TxDOT indicates the ferry landing has to be dredged before it can be used by multiple vessels, and this may take up to six weeks. Two boats will be running in six weeks, but it will be several months before the remaining two landings are repaired and ready for use.
No residential, business or pedestrian traffic is allowed at this time. It will take approximately six weeks before the public will be able to use the ferry. This is purely a safety issue.
ROLLOVER PASS
On Monday, Oct. 6, TxDOT will begin repairs to Rollover Pass. This work is expected to take approximately 45 days.
The law enforcement checkpoint at Rollover Pass will remain until the 45-day period is up or the repairs are completed. After repairs are completed we hope to open the Peninsula with adequate security.
GLO, CORPS OF ENGINEERS
The Corps of Engineers is going to begin dredging the Intercoastal Waterway from Port Bolivar to High Island, as well as Rollover Bay and the ferry landing. Dredging will result in replenishing the beaches with approximately 1.5 million cubic yards of sand.
BUILDING PERMITS
The Galveston County Engineering Department will begin issuing building permits in five to six weeks. Damage assessment by teams under contract to the county must occur before determinations can be made on individual properties. Questions regarding building permits should be directed to the permit office at (409) 770-5552.
CURFEW CLARIFICATION
Bolivar Peninsula remains under a curfew order. Residents may enter between 6 AM and 2 PM daily, but must begin leaving by 4 PM and be off the Peninsula by 6 PM. Bolivar Peninsula remains under a curfew order west of Rollover Pass, NO EXCEPTIONS.
PROPERTY REPAIRS
Property-owners may send contractors on their behalf provided they have a letter of authorization from the homeowner, as well as a copy of the homeowner’s proof of residency.
SECURING YOUR PROPERTY
If a home is missing stairs and minor repairs need to be made to the structure, those repairs can be made without a permit. However, once everything is inspected modifications to existing properties may need to be made to bring structures up to code.
