Galveston County Judge Jim Yarbrough and Precinct 1 County Commissioner Pat Doyle will host a public meeting to discuss Hurricane Ike recovery Tuesday, December 16, 2008, from 3-5 PM at the Crystal Beach County Annex on Bolivar Peninsula.
The purpose of the meeting is to share inforamtion about ongoing relief efforts and to help citizens obtain answers to common questions on various recovery topics.
Representatives from Galveston County Emergency Management, Road & Bridge, the Health District, Engineering, Facilities, Constable Precinct 9 and the Sheriff's Department will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.
Many other local, state and federal officials have been invited to attend, including representatives of Galveston ISD, High Island ISD, FEMA, the Texas General Land Office, the Texas Department of Transportation, Entergy and the Bolivar Special Utility District.
Among the topics to be discussed are:
- Public and private property debris removal
- Beach cleanup activities
- TxDOT Ferry
- Fire, police and EMS services
- FEMA housing options and individual assistance
- Damage assessments and permitting issues
- Human remains recovery mission
- Long-term issues including improvements to Highway 87, sewer system enhancements, coastal protection projects, etc.
Due to access limitations and other issues on the peninsula, the county has previously hosted two public meetings for Bolivar residents in Beaumont. This will the first of a series of public meetings to be held on the peninsula. |
