FEMA has announced closing dates for two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) that have been assisting Galveston County residents for several months with Hurricane Ike-related needs.
The DRC located inside Mall of the Mainland, 10000 E.F. Lowry Expressway in Texas City, will close Thursday, February 26, 2009. The DRC located at VFW Post 8566, 1401 Highway 646 in Bacliff, will close on Monday, March 9, 2009.
The VFW Post location is remaining open longer than the mall location because it continues to see between 30-50 citizens per day seeking help with Ike assistance.
After these DRCs cloase, Galveston County residents will still be able to access services at the FEMA area field office, 4700 Broadway in Galveston, or by calling the FEMA help line, 1-800-621-FEMA.
DRCs previously located at High Island High School and the Bayou Vista Municipal Utility District Building closed November 20 and December 11, respectively.
DRCs provide citizens with information about FEMA individual assistance programs, Small Business Administration loans, disaster housing assistance, and other programs. FEMA claim denials also may be appealed at the DRCs.
