Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 23-29, 2010 PDF Print E-mail

The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management recognizes the week of May 23rd through May 29th is National Hurricane Preparedness Week.  But preparing for hurricanes should not be limited to a single week on the Texas Gulf Coast.

The National Hurricane Center has put together a terrific website dedicated to Hurricane Preparedness Week.  It includes information about hurricane hazards, forecasting and preparedness.  There are also downloads such as personal hurricane trackers and emergency supply lists.  There is additional information and downloads at the FEMA hurricane website.

Local news stations are providing additional information and programming this week to recognize the need to be prepared for hurricanes.  A quick visit to the local National Weather Service website provides a list to hurricane town meetings, workshops and conferences in our area.

Hurricane season begins on June 1st.  While it is great to be prepared at all times, it is not too late to take the next step in preparations for this hurricane season.
