The City of Galveston has
lifted the TCEQ required Boil Water Notice for all areas on Galveston
Island west of 81st Street, including Treasure Island in Brazoria
County. Water samples taken from the impacted areas meet all state and
federal standards for potable drinking water. The City is also removing
the voluntary irrigation and outdoor watering restrictions put in place
last Friday. City officials are instructing area residents and business
owners to flush their own water lines by turning on indoor and outdoor
faucets, both hot and cold taps, and allowing water to run for several
minutes. Similarly, citizens are advised to discard several trays of
ice cubes from automatic icemakers.
Water service for all areas west of 81st Street was disrupted last week
as a result of an electrical fire at the City of Galveston’s Airport
Pump Station. The fire caused significant damage to the electrical
circuit that powers the facility. Two generators are currently
operating the station until permanent repairs can be made. City
officials believe the fire started as a result of latent Hurricane Ike
damage.
