Galveston County Recovery Fund Provides Grants to Religious Organizations PDF Print E-mail

The Galveston County Recovery Fund (The Fund) has funding available to assist religious organizations in Galveston County that suffered physical damage to their facility or lost equipment, furniture or materials due to Hurricane Ike.  The Fund's initial phase of assistance is targeted to assist congregations with 35 members or less.  Grants will be awarded for a maximum amount up to $10,000 and must be used by congregations to help restore the delivery of ministerial services, education and outreach programs.  The primary intent of these grants is to ensure that religious organizations are able to reinstate the physical infrastructure, building, equipment and materials necessary to fulfill their mission.

Applicants must demonstrate that they have exhausted all available public, (FEMA or State) and private (insurance) resources.  The Fund will consider requests to cover insurance deductibles provided that the request clearly demonstrates a gap in repair or replacement costs.

Applicants approved for a grant from The Fund will be required to sign a grant contract attesting that funds will be spent for the stated purpose.  Site visits will be conducted prior to awarding of grants.  A written report to the Galveston County Recovery Fund on the use of grant monies will also be required.
