The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management was activated for a short time this morning in response to an explosion at the American Acryl plant in Seabrook.  The explosion occurred at approximately 8:45 am at the plant's location on Port Road and Hwy 146.  As a precautionary measure, a shelter in place was issued for Galveston County from the north Galveston County line south to San Leon to one mile west of Hwy 146.  The City of League City and the Clear Creek Independent School District east of IH-45 also issued a shelter in place.  The fire was extinguished quickly and air monitoring operations were conducted.  The air quality levels were found to be safe and the shelter in place was lifted at approximately 10:55 am.
