The Bolivar Blueprint Steering Committee is hosting a community workshop Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Crenshaw Elementary and Middle School to discuss projects important to the peninsula's recovery from Hurricane Ike.
The workshop, scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, will give citizens an opportunity to discuss projects that would address needs in key subject areas. These areas include education, infrastructure, housing, the environment, human services, parks and tourism, and economic development.
"The Steering Committee and subcommittees have been meeting regularly to come up with project ideas," said Careen Plummer, who is coordinating the long-term recovery project on behalf of Galveston County with support from FEMA. "Now we need public feedback and suggestions to help guide us in the right direction," she said.
More than 50 Bolivar Peninsula residents are actively serving on the Blueprint subcommittees. The "blueprint" is a draft document that, when complete, will include projects important to the peninsula's recovery as well as timelines for implementation. Copies of the draft can be downloaded from the Bolivar Blueprint website.
"We have a great deal of work left to do," Plummer said. "Our approach is to develop projects which can be funded through existing grant sources in a fairly short time frame, but we also hope to spell out some long-term projects and goals as well."
