The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management launched a new Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) Class this week.  This class is the ninth CERT class since the start of the program in 2007.  Thirty citizens anxious to volunteer arrived for the first class, Introduction, Overview and Personal Preparedness taught by Nancy McCain, Galveston County CERT Coordinator.  CERT Academy #9, which is a multi-week course, is being held at the McGuire Dent Center on Galveston Island.  In addition to individual citizens, several island businesses are represented in class with interest in forming a CERT team for their business.  The Office of Emergency Management would like to thank the Galveston Chamber of Commerce for promoting the class in the community.
