Citizens actively involved in the long-term recovery plan for Bolivar Peninsula are hosting a Community Day event at Casa Blanca, 2522 E. Howell St. in Crystal Beach, Saturday, May 8 from 1-4 PM.
The purpose of the Community Day is to present recovery project ideas to the citizens of Bolivar Peninsula and to connect citizens with resource agencies actively involved in the peninsula’s recovery from Hurricane Ike.
The Community Day event is being coordinated by Careen Plummer, director of the county’s Bolivar Blueprint Long-Term Recovery Program. She is assisted by the Bolivar Blueprint Steering Committee and the volunteer subcommittees that have been working hard since the devastating storm to help restore the communities of Port Bolivar, Crystal Beach, Gilchrist and High Island.
A number of organizations also are participating in the event, including the Bolivar Small Business Coalition, the Bush School of Government and Public Service, FEMA, the Gulf Coast Center and the Galveston County Recovery Fund.
“Please join us May 8 in support of recovery projects that will benefit Bolivar Peninsula, including its residents and businesses,” Plummer said. “You also may contribute to implementation of the recovery program by making a contribution today,” she said. “Please make your check payable to the Bolivar Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, a non-profit 501 (c) 6, and mail to P.O. Box 1170, Crystal Beach, TX 77650, ATTENTION: Bolivar Blueprint.”
