On Saturday, May 22nd, the Galveston County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy 9 completed their mock disaster exercise that serves as the final for their training class.  Academy 9 graduated twenty three new CERT members including one nonagenarian.  Despite the heat, the class waged its battle against a mock explosion with multiple casualties.  Each of the four teams successfully rescued the victims and brought them to an outdoor area for treatment.  The heat did not deter the teams, as they went on to participate in a firefighting scenario to close out the day.  This CERT Academy class was made up of all facets of our community, including doctors, nurses, EMT students, government employees and educators.
