Hurricane Alex Update PDF Print E-mail

During the day on Wednesday, Alex has continued on its predicted path with landfall anticipated late Wednesday evening on the Mexico coast just south of Brownsville.

A Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect through Thursday evening.  Highway 87 is closed from Highway 123 to Rollover Pass.  Highway 87 continues to be impacted by high water and debris in the roadway.  On Thursday morning, the tide levels are expected to be similar, perhaps worse than they were on Wednesday morning.  Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Public Safety, the County Sheriff's Office and the County Road Department are working together on the problem.

The Ferry is operational as of 4:00 pm Wednesday.

Rainfall affecting our area from Hurricane Alex may be from 3-6 inches along the coast and 1-3 inches further inland.  The National Weather Service will monitor conditions and issue a Flood Watch or Warning for inland communities, if necessary.

If you encounter a roadway covered by water, do not attempt to cross.  Remember, turn around don't drown.
