Tarballs found on Bolivar Peninsula and East Beach this past weekend are confirmed to be from the Deepwater Horizon event. The tarballs are small with the largest being about the size of a ping-pong ball. The beaches and waterways remain open. As always, the public can reports signs of oil or tarballs by calling the Texas General Land Office at 1-800-832-8224 or the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802.
Also, a system of disorganized thunderstorms associated with a low pressure area is active near the Yucatan Peninsula. There is a medium chance that the system will develop into a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it travels in a northwestern direction.
