The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch that begins at 7:00 pm Wednesday evening and lasts until 7:00 pm on Thursday.

The broad area of low pressure by the Yucatan Peninsula remains disorganized but there is a moderate chance of further development before the system moves onshore in south Texas or north Mexico in the next day or so.

In addition to the Coastal Flood Watch, a Flash Flood Watch will also be in effect.  Rainfall amounts along the coast could be from 1 to 2 inches with isolated areas receiving 3 to 6 inches of rain.

As with Hurricane Alex, we anticipate coastal flooding associated with higher than normal tides and heavy rainfall.  Highway 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula is likely to be closed again this evening as tides are predicted to be over 4 feet.  There will be periods of higher than normal tides through Friday morning.

Updated information regarding Highway 87 will be sent via the County's Blackboard Connect mass notification alert system.
