State Highway 87 remains open this morning to traffic between Rollover Pass and High Island on Bolivar Peninsula. The highway was closed early Thursday morning by the Texas Department of Transportation, with the assistance of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety, because of high tides related to the tropical weather. The weather system made landfall Thursday afternoon near the Texas-Mexico border, and the tide level subsequently dropped, allowing the agencies to re-open the submerged highway.
Officials are urging motorists to use caution while traveling Highway 87 because there is still some standing water in the eastbound lanes.
