Galveston County officials and the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management are keeping a close eye on Tropical Depression 3. Whenever a tropical storm is predicted to enter the Gulf of Mexico, it's a good time to recheck your emergency plans.
- Whenever there's a hurricane or tropical storm anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico, go over your emergency plans once more with your family.
- Monitor TV and radio broadcasts for instructions and storm information.
- Check and re-check your emergency supply kits for your family, relatives with special needs and pets.
- Plan to have enough food and water to last three to seven days without electricty.
- Make sure you have supplies you will need to get your home read for a storm.
- Make a check listo f tasks you need to do before leaving home if local officials call for an evacuation.
- Fill you gas tank and make sure your car is ready for the road.
- Double check locations where you migth stop during an evacuation if roads become clogged.
- Monitor radio and TV broadcasts about the storm and, if it comes your way, listen for instructions from local officials.
- Storm season lasts through November, so don't let your guard down. Remember to refill and replenish your emergency supplies after every storm.
- Even if you live away from the coast, remember -- hurricanes are huge weather systems that can cause floods throughout the state. State operations to support evacuations and provide shelters may affect your local area as well.
Don't wait until a storm threatens before taking action to be prepared. It makes good sense to be prepared whether or not the storm comes our way.
