Bolivar Residents Alerted to High Tides PDF Print E-mail

The National Weather Service is forecasting higher-than-normal tides along the coast beginning late Sunday evening and continuing through mid-week.
Residents of Bolivar Peninsula should pay close attention in the event the high tides push water over low spots along Highway 87, in particular the stretch between Rollover Pass and High Island.
As a precaution, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Department of Transportation have pre-positioned equipment and placed debris-removal crews on alert.
Tides are expected to rise late into the evening and early morning before dropping. The higher-than-normal tide will return again Monday evening.
The high tides are related to a broad area of low pressure over the southwestern portion of the Gulf of Mexico which could develop into a depression or tropical storm in the next 48 hours. The National Hurricane Center anticipates the system will most likely follow a track into northern Mexico.
Though this system is not likely to cause any adverse impacts to Galveston County, it will contribute to breezy conditions, elevated tides, and the potential for heavy rainfall through Wednesday. Citizens should monitor the system closely in the event conditions change and more direct impacts to the Galveston County coastline are likely.
