Galveston County will host a public meeting on water and wastewater issues impacting the Highway 6 communities Wednesday at 6:30 PM at the Wayne Johnson Community Center at Carbide Park.
The community center is located at the Galveston County Department of Parks and Senior Services facility at Carbide Park, 4102 Main St. (FM 519) in La Marque.
County officials will describe a study of water and wastewater issues being conducted with Ike Recovery funds from the Community Development Block Grant Program.
The study will examine existing water and wastewater facilities along the Highway 6 corridor in Galveston County, from Tiki Island to the Brazoria County line. Citizens as well as operators of water and wastewater systems along Highway 6 are encouraged to attend.
“Water and wastewater systems were impacted heavily by Hurricane Ike, and the Highway 6 communities experienced their share of unique problems,” said John Simsen, the county’s emergency management coordinator. “This study will look exclusively at the Highway 6 area to come up with projects that can mitigate future system failures.”
