Saturday, July 2, 2011 – County Judge Mark Henry banned the sale of all fireworks in unincorporated Galveston County today effective at 12 noon. The ban remains in effect through midnight on July 4. The fireworks ban, issued under the authority of Chapter 418 of the Government Code, prohibits the sale, dispensing or use of all fireworks in unincorporated areas of Galveston County. The ban does not affect public displays of fireworks that are permitted and conducted in accordance with state law. The unincorporated areas include all of Bolivar Peninsula; the San Leon-Bacliff-Bayshore area; the northeastern side of Dickinson; the Alta Loma area around Santa Fe; Freddiesville, south of Hitchcock; and Original Bayou Vista. A violation of the fireworks ban will be a Class C misdemeanor offense, punishable by a fine up to $500. All cities in Galveston County ban the sale and use of fireworks year-round. The order prohibiting the sale of fireworks is posted on the Galveston County web site, at www.co.galveston.tx.us.
