Tropical Disturbance Update PDF Print E-mail

September 1, 2011 - 3:30 PM - The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management just completed our tropical update briefing with the National Weather Service.  Unfortunately, the system in the Gulf of Mexico continues to be fickle due to a lack of steering currents and the forecast remains uncertain.  The forecast indicates the storm will likely be a tropical depression in the next 24 hours and development to a tropical storm is likely after that.

Current models are showing very different scenarios with one set indicating that we may stay relatively dry as the storm makes landfall in Louisiana, while other models indicate the storm may stall just off our coast and produce rain and some coastal flooding before moving off to the northeast.  The hurricane plane is flying the system.  Once a center of circulation is defined, the models will come into agreement and the forecast will be more defined.
