Sept. 12, 2011 – The Galveston County Fair Housing Work Group will hold an organizational meeting Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 1 PM in the League City office of County Judge Mark Henry.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the County’s plans to adopt a fair housing program, and the steps that must be taken to complete a state-required analysis of local housing issues. Completion of the analysis will lead to additional Ike disaster recovery funding for the County.
The Galveston County Commissioners Court recently appointed a group of local citizens, business people and community leaders to assist with the process. The group, which may be expanded as needs arise, includes the following: County Judge Mark Henry; Jim Gentile, Assistant Director, Galveston County Housing Program; Pastor Bob Gibson, San Leon Community Church; Maryanne Rogers, Bolivar Peninsula Small Business Coalition; and Ben Hernandez, vice president of BMS Construction, an affordable-housing provider. Several other local pastors and business people have been invited to participate as well.
Interested citizens are welcome to attend the organizational meeting and future scheduled meetings of the Work Group.
A public hearing will be conducted on the fair housing plan after it is developed, and the plan will be officially adopted by the Galveston County Commissioners Court.
