Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 -- A fire at a wildlife refuge in Jefferson County flared up today and is sending a large plume of smoke across Galveston Bay into the Houston-Galveston area.
Light winds are expected to continue out of the east-southeast throughout the day, pushing the smoke in a west-northwest direction.
Individuals with asthma or other respiratory issues should exercise caution and remain indoors.
