First responders are containing a spill of gasoline from a ruptured pipeline in a remote area of Texas City today. As a precaution, Highway 146 has been closed between FM 517 in Dickinson and FM 1764 (Palmer Highway) in Texas City.
Motorists are urged to use Highway 3 as an alternate route.
Approximately 15 homes in Texas City have been evacuated as a precaution, and a shelter has been opened at the Doyle Center.
Approximately 6,000 gallons of gasoline have spilled into a creek that feeds into Moses Lake. Containment boom is in place, and the county-operated Moses Lake Floodgate has been closed as a precaution. Air-monitoring is under way, and there currently is no risk to the public.
The incident is being managed from the Texas City Emergency Operations Center. The Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas General Land Office, U.S. Coast Guard and Galveston County Office of Emergency Management are responding.
