Boating Safety Week is May 19th – May 25th PDF Print E-mail

As we head into summer, Galveston County residents and visitors are starting to enjoy many activities on the water.  Skiing, kayaking, fishing, boating and many other forms of recreation are available along our coasts and in our waters.  Planning for these trips normally include packing food, drinks, fishing poles, and bathing suits, but does your planning include a Float Plan?

What is a ‘Float Plan’?

According to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Auxiliary, a Float Plan is a written statement (as by a skipper) of the details of an intended voyage (as of a boat or watercraft) usually filed with a family member, friend, neighbor and/or marina operator on shore; a document that specifically describes the vessel, equipment, crew, and itinerary of a planned voyage.

The USCG Auxiliary has developed a Float Plan PDF that is able to saved, emailed, or printed and given to a responsible party of your choosing.  The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management encourages all boaters to be prepared and develop a Float Plan for a safe and fun time.
