There are resources available to get started on the Ready.gov website: http://www.ready.gov/.  You can find a Family Emergency Plan, a Basic Disaster Supplies Kit, and information about Hurricanes and other disasters.  Don't forget to plan for you pets too, they need: food, water, medication, leashes, carriers, vaccination records, just to name a few things.
