SITUATION REPORT #2

SUBJECT: Tropical Storm Edouard

DATE AND TIME COVERED:            Monday, 4 August 2008, 06:00 PM through Tuesday, 5 August 2008, 06:00 AM

● CURRENT SITUATION:

The forecast track for Tropical Storm Edouard shows landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast on Galveston Island , sometime around 12 noon Tuesday.  The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management has fully activated the EOC at 6 pm this evening for Tropical Storm Edouard.  At 4:00 PM CDT, the center of Tropical Storm Edouard was located near Latitude 28.3 North; Longitude 91.4 West or about 215 miles east-southeast of Galveston .  Tropical Storm Edouard is moving toward the west near 7 mph.  Expected rainfall for Monday night through Tuesday evening is estimated 4 to 6 inches with isolated amounts of 10 inches.  Tide forecast is 5 to 6 feet on the beach front.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts.  Tropical Storm wind field is expanding outward giving a better chance for intensification before landfall.  Estimated minimum pressure is at 1000 MB.

The next advisory will be issued by the National Hurricane Center at 10:00 pm CDT.

The Galveston County Emergency Operations Center is activated and operating at a Readiness Condition 1.

Galveston County Offices were closed at 5:00 PM today Monday 4, August, 2008 and will be close on Tuesday. 

Local Disaster declarations have been declared by the County of Galveston , City of Galveston , City of LaMarque , and the City of Santa Fe .

 All Galveston County Departments and Employees are advised to monitor this situation closely.

● CASUALTIES:          None.

● DAMAGES:  None reported at this time.

● EVACUATION:         Galveston County will not be requesting evacuation at this time.

● SHELTER:               None at this time.

● ROADS CURRENTLY CLOSED/IMPACTED:       None at this time.

● CURRENT UTILITY OUTAGES:     None at this time.

● COMMENTS: The Emergency Management Division is closely monitoring this situation.  Conference calls are being conducted with the Local Jurisdictions, National Weather Service, State of Texas Operations Center and our regional partners.  The next conference call is scheduled for 9:00 pm, Monday 4, August, 2008 with the State Operation Center .  This Office and the Emergency Operations Center are at Level 1.  The EOC will continue to be fully activated until further notice.

The State of Texas has mobilized state resources in preparation of landfall on the upper Texas Coast of Tropical Storm Edouard.
