The extreme heat we've seen of late will continue again today, with peak heat index values ranging from 105 to 116+ degrees F. With the persistent conditions, the excessive heat warning that covers the vast majority of the area remains in place through today

As we push deeper into the week, the high end heat may start to back off, but only slightly. This may allow for some reduction of the excessive heat warning area, but in those areas, continuing heat advisories appear likely, as any improvement will be modest at best. In the longer term, there is an expectation for the heat to build back this weekend, and the Week 2 Outlook from the Climate Prediction Center indicates a moderate potential - higher than 40% - for excessive heat to stick with us until the end of the month
