Blue button jellyfish have been washing ashore in Galveston County. A purple beach flag indicates the presence of dangerous wildlife. Check the flag status before heading out here. 

Prevention is always the first step. Checking the flag can help you plan your activities to mitigate stings all together. Avoid even dead or washed up jellyfish, they can still sting. DO NOT rub the wound. Pour warm water to try and deactivate the stingers, and vinegar to help deactivate the venom. Treat any remaining discomfort with hydrocortisone.
