If you are hitting the beach this weekend, go prepared knowing these tips.

Sea Turtle Rescue: 1-866-TURTLES

Sea Mammal Rescue: 1-800-9-MAMMAL

Water Quality: Texas Beach Watch

Tide Reports: NOAA

Rip Currents:

  • Don't fight the current
  • Swim out of the current, then to the shore
  • If you can't escape, tread water
  • If you need help, call or wave
  • Know how to swim
  • Never swim alone
  • If in doubt, don't go out

Heat Exhaustion:

Symptoms:

  • Faint or dizzy
  • Excessive seating
  • Cool, pale, clammy skin
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Rapid, weak pulse
  • Muscle cramps

What to do:

  • Get to cooler air or conditioned place
  • Drink water if fully conscious
  • Take a cool shower or use cold compresses

 Heat Stroke:

Symptoms:

  • Throbbing headache
  • No sweating
  • Body temp above 103
  • Red, hot, dry skin
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Rapid, strong pulse
  • May lose consciousness

What to do:

  • CALL 911
  • Take immediate action to cool the person until help arrives
