To ensure a safe and stress-free Halloween for your pets, the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management is here to offer some valuable tips.

1. Secure Your Pets

With the constant doorbell ringing and the comings and goings of trick-or-treaters, it's easy for pets to become frightened and escape. Keep your pets in a quiet, secure room or area away from the front door. This will prevent them from darting out and getting lost or injured.

2. No Treats for Pets

While candy is a Halloween treat for humans, it can be toxic to pets. Keep chocolate, candies, and gum out of reach, as they can be harmful to dogs and cats. Make sure your children understand the importance of not sharing their candy with their furry friends.

3. Watch Out for Decorations

Halloween decorations can be captivating to pets, but they can also pose a threat. Cats might be tempted to play with dangling decorations, and dogs might try to chew on wires or cords. Keep decorations out of your pet's reach and opt for pet-friendly alternatives when decorating your home.

4. Be Cautious with Costumes

If you're dressing your pet in a Halloween costume, make sure it's comfortable and safe for them. Ensure that it doesn't restrict their movement, breathing, or vision. Some pets may not tolerate costumes at all, so be mindful of their comfort and remove the costume if they seem stressed or uncomfortable.

7. Quiet, Safe Space
