Galveston County partnered with the Texas General Land Office & Texas Parks and Wildlife to host our 2024 Vessel Turn-In event.
In 2024, Galveston County collected 52 derelict vessels, adding to the over 300 vessels we have cleared from our waterways through this successful annual event. Since the late 1990's, Galveston County has been working with the Texas General Land Office to dispose of derelict vessels.
In 2014, the Vessel-Turn in Program (VTIP) was created to address the financial and environmental issues created by neglected vessels. This cost-effective solution has lowered the number of dumped boats from 30-50 per year to around 10.
Thank you to the Galveston County Nuisance Abatement Department, Texas General Land Office, and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department for helping to keep our waterways clear!
