Cold weather is heading to Galveston County this weekend, and now is the time to prepare.
- Sunday : Slight rain chances in the morning with high temperatures in the mid-30s.
- Sunday night into Monday morning: The coldest period, with temperatures dropping into the mid-20s.
- Monday: Afternoon highs in the low 40s, then falling back into the upper 20s Monday night.
How to Prepare:
- Wrap and insulate pipes, especially outdoor pipes and those in elevated structures.
- Open bathroom and kitchen cabinets to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing.
- During freezing conditions, let faucets drip slightly.
- Dress in extra layers if you plan to be outdoors and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors.
- If it’s cold for people, it’s cold for pets — bring them indoors or ensure they have adequate warmth.
- Cover delicate plants or bring them inside.
Heater & Fire Safety:
- Never leave electric space heaters unattended and keep them away from flammable items such as furniture and blankets.
- Never use outdoor grills or heating devices inside your home or garage.
The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management is working closely with the National Weather Service – Houston/Galveston and our local and state partners to monitor conditions as this cold weather approaches.
