Halloween can be a stressful time for pets. Help out our furry friends by making it a little easier on them by trying these tips.

Keep pets inside at night. With all the commotion and costumes, your pets will be safer taking the night off inside. This goes for trick-or-treating as well. As much as they would like to show off their costume, keep them inside and have a social media photoshoot. If you have not, have a tag on your pet with a phone number or, better yet, have them microchipped.

When having house parties, make sure your pets have a quiet and calm place to relax. Strangers in costumes coming in and out and loud noises can be stressful for your pets. Every pet loves a treat, but make sure they do not help themselves to candy. Chocolate and sugar substitutes can be LETHAL for both dogs and cats.

When it comes to poisons, many more can be lurking in the dyes, paints, plastics of Halloween decorations and costumes. These items can also be choking hazards. Never leave a pet in a costume unattended.

Make sure that for every holiday, you have identified an emergency vet that is open. Lost and found pets can be reported or claimed with Galveston County Health District Animal Resource Center. Here you can also adopt or foster a new family member.
