Some of the deals that pop up on Black Friday are enough to snap anyone out of their food coma. It is important to have a plan though and keep yourself and your wallet safe.

  • Have a reunification point. This is especially important for kids. Pick a spot that you all can reunite if you become separated in a crowd.
  • Keep your wallet, cell, and purse on you at all times. There is a lot of commotion and things can be easily lost or stolen. It is best to keep your wallet in a front pocket where you can feel it easily and not set your purse down.
  • Do not overburden yourself. There is a lot of family members to get gifts for, I know, but overburdening yourself can make you an easy target for thieves.
  • Use a single credit cars. Using a single card can make it easy to cancel if you find fraud. A credit card can also offer more protections on it than your debit cards. The upside too of using the credit card is if you do find fraud and need to freeze the account, you are not locked out of your money in your savings and checking.
  • Store valuables out of sight. In the trunk is a good idea. While a thief may know that a trunk could contain valuables, thieves are opportunists and will go for the purse or laptop they can see.
